Action Arts Group: Tube Alloys Talk
St Mary's Church Hall
Action Arts Group presents a talk by Professor Gareth Williams: TUBE ALLOYS, the story of the British scientists who built the first atomic bombs.
Their names are mostly forgotten but they changed the course of history. Without them, the Manhattan Project and Los Alamos would never have happened and no atomic bombs could have been made during the Second World War.
In his new book, Professor Gareth Williams unearths the remarkable story of the top-secret British nuclear programme, set up in 1940, and code-named “Tube Alloys”. The Impossible Bomb is a gripping true-life scientific thriller which sheds new light on the birth of nuclear weapons – and reveals how and why Tube Alloys was written out of history.
