The parish of Thornbury is looking to employ a person to undertake general caretaker duties. They will be based mainly at St Mary the Virgin, Castle Street, Thornbury, Bristol BS35 1HQ, and occasional help may be required at our other Benefice churches of St Paul’s situated in Hackett Lane, Thornbury and St Arilda’s in Oldbury-on-Severn and St Mary’s Church Hall for church-related activities.

Salary: £Real Living Wage hourly rate; currently £12.60 per hour
Hours: 10 hours per week approximately which are likely to be spread over week days and weekends. The actual hours worked to be mutually agreed.

To keep our buildings accessible, clean and prepared for visitors and congregations.
This role will be very much appreciated throughout the Benefice and the holder will work alongside our many and varied volunteers, who cover a variety of duties.
St Mary’s is a vibrant and busy church, serving not only the worshiping community but also the Town community, providing a place for weddings, funerals, baptisms, concerts and school services based in the church. The Caretaker will be expected to relieve some of the tasks at present undertaken by our volunteers from the congregations, but also to work alongside them.
The other 3 churches in the Benefice may request occasional help for particular events. Occasionally services/events are held in St Mary’s Church Hall and help maybe requested for setting up.

Overall purpose of post
This post holder will work closely with the Priest-in-Charge and ministry team to plan, formulate and lead worship and community outreach. They will co-ordinate the various children’s activities held within the Benefice, and respond to the varying needs of families within the church community. They will provide a link between our Churches and Schools both primary and secondary.
Context in which this job will be carried out
We want the holder of this new job role to become an integral part of the Benefice team and to this end we will welcome and encourage new ideas and suggestions about what we can do better.
We will do what we can to “work around” school holidays if the job applicant has family commitments.
Responsibilities
To liaise with the leaders of the churches’ various children’s groups and activities to encourage, steer, and participate in where needed.
Participate in and help lead All Age Services which take place each month.
Generally help to blend all the various types of children’s groups together into a cohesive, supportive, whole.
To ensure that all health and safety and safeguarding instructions are followed and that care is taken to ensure safety for self and colleagues, reporting concerns immediately.
