Thornbury Library is super pleased to announce a tea, coffee and cake afternoon with Alison Hitchcock and Brian Greenley, authors of “From Me, To You”, an inspiring, hopeful account of how an unlikely friendship flourished after a cancer diagnosis through the power of letters, changing two lives forever and leading to the founding of an award-winning charity.
Alison Hitchcock and Brian Greenly met on a yoga holiday in 2010. Shortly afterward, when Brian was diagnosed with bowel cancer, feeling awkward and not sure what to say, Alison offered to write him letters to cheer him up. Over the next two-and-a-half years, as Brian’s cancer worsened, Alison wrote over 100 letters which became an important part of his recovery process, helping him feel less isolated. The letters didn’t dwell on Brian’s illness, but were full of funny stories about Alison’s friends, family and herself
After Brian was given the all clear, the two friends set up and run the charity From Me to You (in 2016) a national campaign encouraging people to write letters to support friends, family and strangers suffering from cancer.
