The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari with music by Minima
Turnberrie's Community Centre, Thornbury
A unique modern musical accompaniment to an iconic silent film.
A Hallowe’en Treat! If you were lucky enough to see last October’s viewing of “Nosferatu”, you know how captivating this mixture of historic film and Minima’s avant-garde score can be. Synthesising electronic guitar, cello, bass and drums carry you along with movements that are beautiful and haunting.
Made in the aftermath of the First World War, The Cabinet of Dr. Calgari is the quintessential German Expressionist film masterpiece. Robert Wiene’s distorted sets, sinister shadows and unnerving characters creating a paranoid, unreal world at a time of despair throughout Europe.
Among many screenings Minima have performed at the Edinburgh Fringe and the Glastonbury Festival. The production won the 2015 Media Innovation Awards Installation/Exhibition/Live event category.
