Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) Lifeboat Open Day

10am-4.30pm, Sharpness Lifeboat Station, The Old Dock, Sharpness, GL13 9UB

The crew and volunteers of SARA’s Sharpness Lifeboat Station are holding their annual Open Day. The volunteers of this fantastic local charity need your help and support so they can continue their important work – going to search-and-rescue emergencies in all weathers and at any time of the day/night, 365 days a year.

We are an independent lifeboat organisation, with bases along the River Severn. Our lifeboat crews need many skills and we will be demonstrating these on the day. You can try your hand too – what is it like to experience a high-speed ride on the River Severn in one of the bigger lifeboats? This is great opportunity to meet the crew, talk to them and get a real understanding of their great work.

There will be a fantastic range of activities to entertain the whole family. Come along and enjoy boat rides, demonstrations, BBQ, tea, cakes, kids' activities, including face painting and stalls. We also have a book signing with Rachel Sergeant, the Bristol Male Voice Choir joining us and much more.

Please note boat rides on the river are for over 18 year olds. Please come along and support the lifeboat crew. Parking and entry are free.

“This brilliant local charity is run wholly by volunteers and is almost completely dependent on the support and donations from local people and businesses. The crews, who train every Sunday and Thursday, will be there to show you around and chat about how stuff works, how fast it goes and what they do when the ‘Shouts’ come in from the Coastguard, Police or Fire Service”

“There are also boat rides on the pond for the kids, vehicles and boats to clamber over, live demonstrations, lots of stalls, teas and coffees and a BBQ. You will also see a number of the crew get very wet!”
David Hill - General Executive Officer
