Friends of Filnore Woods Work Morning
Thornbury Active Centre
We will meet as usual near the tool store by the main wood entrance that's over the field from the Leisure Centre car park corner at 10.00am and finish around midday.
We have gloves and hand sanitiser available and if we have lots of people we will separate into small groups no larger than six. Don't feel obliged to come if you are nervous about COVID-19.
Work mornings are usually from 10am till 12pm on the second Sunday and fourth Wednesday of every month.
Next work morning is Wednesday 28th April, when we shall make a big effort to get the path through the Valley Woodland, between posts 8 and 11, up to scratch. This will mean pegging thicker poles on the downhill side of the current, crumbling edging poles, nailing the pegs and levelling the path with woodchip. We have some material ready but will have to cut more poles, sharpen pegs and collect woodchip.
9th and 26th May will probably mean a return to mowing with scythes. If you haven't done it before we will show you. We have to cut the grass and remove it to reduce the fertility and promote the wild flowers. So rakes and pitchforks will be in action as well as the scythes.
