Thornbury's Community Energy Future Starts Today

Thornbury Active Centre

18:15-20:45

You’re invited to take the next step in shaping community-owned renewable energy in the Thornbury area.

This workshop is part of the Future Energy Landscapes project in South Gloucestershire and builds on a series of conversations that have been ongoing since April 2024. Together, we’ve explored how renewable energy could work locally, what community ownership means, and whether there is appetite to move forward.

Now, we’re focusing on turning those ideas into action.

About this workshop:

Thornbury's Community Energy Future Starts Today is a workshop for those who are interested in taking a more active role in developing community energy projects in the Thornbury area. Community ownership means clean energy projects that are designed, owned, and led by local people, with the benefits staying in the community, depending on what’s suitable for your area.

At this stage, we will be working together to identify clear next steps towards making potential projects happen including narrowing down potential areas, details of community-ownership, finances and governance, as well as what roles the community could play.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is aimed at people who are keen to be more involved in shaping what happens next. No technical expertise is required - just an interest in helping move things forward.

During this session, we will:

Review what we’ve learned so far from earlier events and community feedback
Explore and discuss potential areas' feasibility for a community energy project
Consider different community-ownership structures and what they could mean for the Thornbury area
Identify the roles community members could play in developing and delivering a project, and if there is interest, begin forming a local working group to take the project forward with forming a local working group
Agree on next steps towards a community energy project and potential funding applications
This will be an interactive session with group discussions and opportunities to share your views.
