It’s 1755 and a soldier arrives on the barren Jutland heath with a single goal: to follow the king's call to cultivate the land and thereby achieve wealth and honour for himself.
He soon makes an enemy of a landowner, who will stop at nothing to drive the soldier away. The soldier takes up the task which will risk both his life and his bond with the small, troubled family that has arisen around him on the heath.
