An Afternoon with Sir George White
Thornbury Library
Local author Sir George White spent most of his working life as curator of the world's oldest clock and watch museum, now displayed within the Science Museum, London. He has published many books and articles on horology, cars, aeroplanes, the new home of Bristol Zoo and other subjects, bringing them to life with the many incredible stories he’s collected along the way.
His latest book is a biography of the pioneering naturalist, artist and forgotten local hero John Knapp (1767-1845). John Knapp was a resident of Alveston for thirty years and the author of the internationally best-selling work The Journal of a Naturalist.
Sir George’s new biography includes a previously unpublished edition of the journal, created from Knapp's original notes, and is full of wonderful illustrations, photographs and plenty of fascinating stories that Sir George will be sharing with us at the event.
An Afternoon with Sir George White promises to be a wonderfully rich and inspiring event, with time for tea and Q&A too, so do join us!
