‘Kiss Me, Kate’ will bring light and colour to the stage at Olveston Parish Hall (Upper Tockington Road BS32 4LQ) at 7.30pm on Wednesday 15th to Saturday 18th February 2023 (half term week).
Once again, Linda Evans is skilfully directing the show − a much-loved musical comedy, which will mark its 75th anniversary in 2023. It tells the story of divorced actors Lilli Vanessi and Fred Graham, whose off-stage relationship closely shadows their on-stage roles in a production of ‘The Taming of the Shrew’. Confusion and conflict combine as the couple’s Shakespearean performance merges into their back stage disagreement. If that wasn’t enough, the cast is joined by two ham-fisted gangsters, determined to recover their boss’s gambling winnings.
Of course, ‘Kiss Me, Kate’ is perhaps most famous for Cole Porter’s memorable lyrics and music, and you can look forward to enjoying fantastic renditions of famous songs, under the experienced musical direction of Chloe Allsopp-Jones. They include the unforgettable ‘Too Darn Hot’, ‘Brush Up Your Shakespeare’, ‘I Hate Men’ and ‘Another Op'nin', Another Show’. We are also excited to welcome our new choreographer, Jo Baxter, who is putting the cast through their paces.
