Lidl GB is thrilled to announce that its brand-new store on Midland Way, Thornbury, is set to open its doors on Thursday 30th July. To mark the grand opening, the discounter is inviting the local community to join in with the celebrations from 8am with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
On opening day, shoppers can look forward to complimentary food sampling as well as some special prizes up for grabs at the Midland Way location. The store will be open from 8am–10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sundays, providing the community with access to the discounter’s award-winning range of great value and quality products.
With a 1,341m² sales area, the store will feature the discounter’s popular in-store bakery, iconic Middle of Lidl aisle, and customer facilities, including toilets with baby-changing. Outside, there will be ample parking for cars and bicycles as well as rapid electric vehicle chargers. As part of Lidl GB’s commitment to renewable energy and carbon emissions reduction, some of the store’s power will be captured from solar panels on the roof.
Lidl was recently named the UK’s fifth largest supermarket1, as more and more shoppers vote with their feet and flock to the discounter. Now, with the opening of its newest store on Midland Way, shoppers in Thornbury will be able to access this unique offering for themselves.

Lidl GB’s commitment to Thornbury goes beyond the checkout. In partnership with Neighbourly, the store will redistribute surplus food to local charities and food banks, through the Feed it Back scheme, ensuring fresh produce reaches those who need it most.
The retailer is also inviting nearby schools to join the Lidl Foodies programme. This free initiative aims to support the next generation to develop a love for healthy eating, with a focus on fresh fruit and veg. Local teachers will be able to access ready-made workshop plans throughout the year by visiting the National Schools Partnership website.
