Thornbury High Street Briefing Meeting

Turnberrie's Community Centre, Thornbury

Thornbury Town and District Residents' Association are holding two Briefing Meetings regarding Thornbury High Street:

Thursday 24th February 2022 in the Avon Hall at Turnberries starting at 7.00pm

and

Monday 28th February 2022 in the Avon Hall at Turnberries starting at 7.00pm

The Briefing Meetings are to update members and contacts of TTaDRA to the current situation regarding South Gloucestershire Council’s (SGC) application for Funding from West of England Combined Authority (WECA).

This relates to closure of the the High Street since the start of the pandemic in spring 2020 and South Gloucestershire Council's current proposals.

These Briefing Meetings will be open to the public but space at each of these meetings will be limited to 120 people, hence the 2 separate meeting dates.

If not a member and you are intending to attend please drop a line to our secretary by email below or alternatively visit our website below and sign up as a member.

There are News pages on the website which will be updated nearer the dates of the meetings.

We are holding a Full Public Meeting on Wednesday 16th March 2022 at the Conference Hall in the Leisure Centre starting at 7.30pm.

This will be open to the Public and the Hall has seating for 300. At the two previous public meetings in 2021 over 300 people in total attended.

Dan Norris - Metro Mayor, Luke Hall - MP for Thornbury & Yate, Toby Savage - Leader of South Gloucestershire Council and Jayne Stansfield - Mayor of Thornbury Town Council will be invited but we do not yet know who will accept the invitation.

The Outline Business Case was agreed by West of England Combined Authority (WECA) Joint Committee on 28th January 2022 and the Chief Executive of WECA was authorised to sign off the Full Business Case (FBC) once it was submitted. We believe SGC intend to submit the FBC in March.

Aware of the Metro Mayor’s (Dan Norris) concern that full, fair and respectful consultation has not been carried out ever since the High Street was closed at the start of the pandemic in Spring 2020, SGC changed tack before the meeting on 28th January and the leader of South Gloucestershire Council (Toby Savage) took a late decision to change the source of funding through the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). The LEP is still part of WECA but by so doing it ensured that Dan Norris did not have a vote.

It is intended that we video the meetings but the camera would be located at the rear of the hall so the identity of those attending would be respected.
