The Woodchester Mansion Trust have a number of opportunities available only to volunteers aged over 18. The Mansion opens to the public on Good Friday, 3rd April and will then be open 11am-5pm every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays until Sunday 1st November. The opportunities are:
• cleaners needed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to support staff with cleaning duties at the beginning of our Open Days or before events, making sure kitchen and toilets are clean, sweeping, dusting and vacuuming etc;
• office admin/filing volunteer needed on Wednesday mornings (3-4 hours). Tasks will include filing, shredding, stock taking, printing and preparing booklets and entrance labels. You must also be prepared to pitch in with keeping the working areas clean and tidy. Must have good IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and be well organised.
• bat guide volunteers with an interest in bats to give evening talks about the roost and the study facilities. As dusk falls, visitors move into the house to see the bats flying through the corridors and Gothic chapel and going outside to forage;
• children's activities volunteers who have worked with children aged 3-18 years are needed to organise and compile a schools & kids programmes. A successful school holidays programme used to be held and it is hoped to to reinstate it;
• a fund-raising and marketing volunteer to help raise funds for conservation - organising and selling raffle tickets, updating local press about current events, selling merchandise at Christmas Fairs or similar. Would suit volunteers wishing to work from home;
• maintenance volunteers, ideally with skills in building, carpentry, general DIY, gardening, and outdoor work such as mowing grass and pruning undergrowth. Working parties are arranged throughout the year, mainly on Mondays;
• mini-bus drivers are needed at weekends between April-October to ferry visitors from house to car park, assist visitors with buggies, children and dogs and to explain the tour options. As the house is on private land there are no special driving licence requirements, although you must be aged over 25;
• reception and ticket desk volunteers needed for Open Days. These volunteers welcome visitors, sell admission tickets to the house and direct people to the tearoom etc;
• tour guides to show visitors round an historic house. The house is open on Fridays to Sundays, Bank Holidays, some school holidays and for some pre-booked private tours during the week. You will need email access at home so you can sign up for the days that suit you on the organisation's flexible online rota.
