Lent Taizé Service

Christ the King Church Hall, Thornbury

This will include easy to sing melodies with instrumental accompaniment, readings, and prayers. We are hoping that some new singers will come along and join us this year - especially from among the newcomers to our parish family - as our numbers are dwindling.

Some of the chants are set in 4-part harmony so an ability to read musical notation would be good but not essential. The service will be followed by tea, coffee and hot cross buns in the parlour.

Practices will be on Sunday 5th and 12th March after the 10.30 Mass, and on Tuesday afternoons on the 7th, 14th and 21st of March at 2.00 p.m. with a final rehearsal at 2.00 p.m. on 26th March. Thanks to all who regularly support us! Margaret Costello (415282)

The Taizé services that we organise for Advent and Lent originate from France in the ecumenical community founded by Brother Roger Schutz(1915 - 2005), near to the ancient abbey of Cluny.

The beautiful music consists of short simple melodies repeated again and again to give a meditative character with
violin, flute, piano and guitar providing the accompaniment.
