Armstrong Arts Group: Roll Over Beethoven
Cossham Hall, Thornbury
Roll Over Beethoven – an irreverent look at Classical Music with Michael Lunts.
From Alan Sherman's ' Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah' to Tom Lehrer's 'Wienerschnitzel Waltz', comedy song writers down the ages have played fast and loose with the rarefied world of classical music, finding humour in an art form that can take itself rather seriously.
In Roll Over Beethoven, Michael Lunts takes a break from his 'musical dramas' about great classical composers to bring together the world of classical music and his almost encyclopaedic knowledge of comedy songs celebrating the work of those from Flanders and Swann to Joyce Grenfell, from Dudley Moore to Gilbert and Sullivan, who have found plenty to laugh about in classical music
This extra special event is organised by The Armstrong Arts Group; the first in the Autumn series of concerts to raise funds for the Armstrong Hall Redevelopment Project. Tickets £15 (to include interval nibbles) can be obtained from Thornbury Town Hall or by 'phoning 01454 412272.
