Collection for Julian Trust Night Shelter
St Mary's Church, Thornbury
2nd December to 16th December
GIFTS FOR THE HOMELESS: The Parish church of Thornbury; St Mary's Church, St Paul's the Hackett and St Arilda's in Oldbury have been supporting Julian Trust Night Shelter in Bristol for some years now. Many people have donated clothing for men (ladies clothing is not needed) and toiletry items to help the homeless.
At Christmas time for the last few years we have been making up gifts for those who come for meals at the centre over the Christmas period. These gifts comprise a toothbrush and toothpaste, a small bar of soap and face flannel and a small bar of chocolate (no more than 100gms). We pack them all into a plastic wallet with a little card wishing them a happy Christmas. They are then wrapped and ribboned and are handed out at the meal they attend.
It is surprising how well these little gifts are received – for many it will be the only present they will get. Because of the generosity of the community last year we were able to pack and wrap 240 presents – it would be wonderful if we could exceed that number this year. Could you help? Just one item per person reading this would make a difference. We are especially needing face flannels.
Items can be left at the back of either St Mary's church or St Paul's where we have boxes labelled ready to receive your gift. Please help us achieve our goal – it will make a great difference to someone's Christmas. But hurry please, we are wrapping the parcels on 17th December. Thank you. You can call Vivienne on 01454 418932 to know more.
